Parts of Speech are the categories into which words are classified based on their function in a sentence. There are eight main parts of speech in English:


Noun (नाम)

A noun is the name of person, place, animal or thing. Examples: Ram, Ayodhya, lion, pen etc.

Example Sentences: Ram eats food. Siya is reading a book.


Pronoun (सर्वनाम)

A pronoun is a word that is used in the place of a noun. Examples: he, she, it, I, we, you, they etc.

Example Sentences: He eats food. She is reading a book.


Verb (क्रिया)

A verb is a word that shows an action. Examples: eat, run, sleep etc.

Example Sentences: Ram eats food. He goes to school daily.


Adjective (विशेषण)

An adjective is a word that describes a noun or pronoun. Examples: big, beautiful, fast, red etc.

Example Sentences: It is a beautiful day. He is eating a red apple.


Adverb (क्रिया विशेषण)

An adverb is a word that describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Examples: quickly, very, slowly etc.

Example Sentences: He ran quickly. She is very smart.


Preposition (संबंध सूचक अव्यय)

A preposition is a word that shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word. Examples: in, on, between etc.

Example Sentences: The book is on the table. She is sitting between her friends.


Conjunction (संयोजक)

A conjunction is a word that connects words, phrases, or sentences with each other. Examples: and, but, or, because etc.

Example Sentences: I like tea and coffee. He is tired, but he keeps working.


Interjection (विस्मयादिबोधक)

An interjection is a word that expresses sudden emotion. Examples: Wow! Ouch! Hurray! etc.

Example Sentences: Wow! That’s amazing! Ouch! That hurts!
